Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall B+
ValueC NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB
The Jaguars fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+.

Boards are made to be trusted, and the Jaguars shredded theirs for DeMonte Capehart. He came off 64 spots early, and the room will hear about it. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.

The Legette pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.

They will answer for taking edge rusher early while linebacker, quarterback and other spots went begging. The linebacker hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In the 32nd pick they get a blindside protector, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick48 Rnd2 Sedrick Van Pran
A wild overpay on Sedrick Van Pran in slot 48, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick64 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette in the 64th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick79 Rnd3 Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson at the Round 3 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick96 Rnd3 Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni at No. 96 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick114 Rnd4 Austin Booker
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 4, Pick 14 on Austin Booker with linebacker, quarterback and other spots unsolved.
Pick116 Rnd4 James Williams
Value said wait; James Williams in the 116th pick says they were not listening. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick155 Rnd5 Cam Hart
Cam Hart at the 155th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick195 Rnd6 Christian Jones
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Jones at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick211 Rnd6 DeMonte Capehart
A swing that ignored the value entirely, DeMonte Capehart well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick237 Rnd7 Jayson Jones
They talked themselves into Jayson Jones at Round 7, Pick 17, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
