Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB FutureB
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Texans: B.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Texans spent the 210th overall pick on Kamran James, a name the board had a full 54 spots lower.

For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. However the rest shakes out, Klare at that price is a win they earned.

The trade work was a quiet net positive.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick38 Rnd2 Sonny Styles
Good price on Sonny Styles in the 38th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick40 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
They took Emmanuel Pregnon at par in No. 40, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick59 Rnd2 Lee Hunter
They liked Lee Hunter enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 59. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick74 Rnd3 Max Klare
They read the board right and Max Klare was the payoff at the Round 3 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick82 Rnd3 Daylen Everette
A reach for Daylen Everette in pick No. 82; a little patience would have been rewarded. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick97 Rnd3 Max Iheanachor
They left a pile of value on the table to take Max Iheanachor this early at slot 97. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick106 Rnd4 Kaytron Allen
A slide stopped in pick No. 106, with Kaytron Allen worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick128 Rnd4 Tanner Koziol
Tanner Koziol at slot 128 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick165 Rnd5 Taylen Green
By-the-book stuff, Taylen Green at the Round 5 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick169 Rnd5 Lander Barton
A straight-up fair deal on Lander Barton at pick 169, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick210 Rnd6 Kamran James
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kamran James. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick243 Rnd7 Roman Hemby
Roman Hemby at Round 7, Pick 27 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick244 Rnd7 Ricardo Hallman
A clean, defensible pick in the 244th overall pick with a little surplus value in Ricardo Hallman. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
