Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesD FutureA+
A solid, sensible weekend for the Patriots: B.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: Kedon Slovis in the 231st overall pick, a good 74 spots before the room expected him. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.

The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In pick 15 they get a true top target. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick34 Rnd2 Amarius Mims
They read the board right and Amarius Mims was the payoff at the Round 2 slot. The roster fit checks out.
Pick46 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. at the 46th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick82 Rnd3 Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul in pick No. 82 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick88 Rnd3 Spencer Rattler
A big swing on Spencer Rattler at No. 88, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick91 Rnd3 Kingsley Suamataia
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 91st overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick105 Rnd4 Trey Benson
You do not let a running back like Trey Benson reach Round 4, Pick 5 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick115 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
They barely believed it either: Khyree Jackson still on the board at pick No. 115. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick137 Rnd5 Jarrian Jones
They paid sticker price for Jarrian Jones in the 137th pick, and that is fine. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick180 Rnd6 Luke McCaffrey
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Luke McCaffrey in pick 180, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick193 Rnd6 Kamal Hadden
Taking Kamal Hadden in slot 193 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick231 Rnd7 Kedon Slovis
Kedon Slovis in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
