Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesC+ FutureA
The Patriots finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

Jordan has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Getting Paul where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Jayden Daniels
In the 8th pick they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 Amarius Mims
A slide stopped in the Round 2 slot, with Amarius Mims worth more than the price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick50 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Payton Wilson in Round 2, Pick 18. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick68 Rnd3 Xavier Legette
They paid sticker price for Xavier Legette in No. 68, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick97 Rnd3 Patrick Paul
You do not let an offensive lineman like Patrick Paul reach pick No. 97 and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick104 Rnd4 Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III in the 104th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick110 Rnd4 Sataoa Laumea
By-the-book stuff, Sataoa Laumea at pick 110 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick136 Rnd4 Jarrian Jones
A reach for Jarrian Jones in slot 136; a little patience would have been rewarded. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick182 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
They paid a round early for Joe Milton III in the 182nd overall pick, more than the board wanted. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick189 Rnd6 Nathan Thomas
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Nathan Thomas well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick229 Rnd7 Jawhar Jordan
Value said wait; Jawhar Jordan in pick No. 229 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
