JAGUAR1 DRAFTING FOR THEJaguars
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Jaguars: B-. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Jaguars started one anyway for DeMonte Capehart, 29 picks ahead of schedule.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Kool-Aid McKinstry
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a sticky cover corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick48
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat in the 48th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick79
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
They went early on Sedrick Van Pran in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick96
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Christian Mahogany at No. 96. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick114
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
No edge and no loss on Darius Robinson in pick 114; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick116
Rnd4
James Williams
They paid a round early for James Williams in slot 116, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
Pick155
Rnd5
Cam Hart
They barely believed it either: Cam Hart still on the board at No. 155. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick195
Rnd6
Christian Jones
Nothing to complain about; Christian Jones went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick211
Rnd6
Matthew Jones
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Matthew Jones. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick237
Rnd7
DeMonte Capehart
A swing that ignored the value entirely, DeMonte Capehart well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
