There is conviction, and then there is this. The Vikings took Pat Coogan a full 46 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.

That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Spending an early pick on linebacker with edge rusher open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
