FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Texans, and a B to prove it. The Texans' one glaring miss is wide receiver, a need they left exactly as they found it. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Coleman at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The cost of the Singleton reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Kayden McDonald
In pick No. 30 they get an anchor for the defensive front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
They paid sticker price for Olaivavega Ioane in slot 38, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick59
Rnd2
Jonah Coleman
They read the board right and Jonah Coleman was the payoff at pick 59. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick69
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton at No. 69 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick94
Rnd3
Daylen Everette
Daylen Everette in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick106
Rnd4
Monroe Freeling
Monroe Freeling at the 106th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick128
Rnd4
Jalon Kilgore
Jalon Kilgore slipping to the 128th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick130
Rnd4
Tanner Koziol
The board had cheaper options than Tanner Koziol at Round 4, Pick 30, and it noticed. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick165
Rnd5
Lander Barton
By-the-book stuff, Lander Barton at the 165th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick243
Rnd7
Haynes King
Haynes King in pick No. 243 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick244
Rnd7
Fred Davis II
A wild overpay on Fred Davis II in No. 244, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
