Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans kept it disciplined and banked a B-.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Drew Shelton; the Texans did not wait, grabbing him 25 spots ahead at Round 2, Pick 27.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Lawson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Christen Miller
In slot 28 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick38 Rnd2 Jonah Coleman
Jonah Coleman in pick No. 38 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick59 Rnd2 Drew Shelton
Drew Shelton at No. 59 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
Pick69 Rnd3 Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson at the 69th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick106 Rnd4 Jaeden Roberts
The board had cheaper options than Jaeden Roberts at pick 106, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick128 Rnd4 Chase Bisontis
Chase Bisontis at the 128th pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick165 Rnd5 Aaron Anderson
A quiet steal in pick 165: Aaron Anderson for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick243 Rnd7 Jaylon Braxton
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaylon Braxton in slot 243. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick244 Rnd7 Trey Holly
Trey Holly at the Round 7 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
