Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureA
The Patriots finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a A-.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Smith-Wade.

The Hall pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

In the end it comes back to Jayden Daniels, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Jayden Daniels
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
Nothing to complain about; Brian Thomas Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick38 Rnd2 Troy Fautanu
Nice patience on Troy Fautanu, who had no business lasting to pick 38. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick68 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
They took Payton Wilson at par in Round 3, Pick 4, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick115 Rnd4 Sataoa Laumea
Sataoa Laumea at the 115th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick139 Rnd5 Kamal Hadden
Fair-plus on Kamal Hadden, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick182 Rnd6 Chau Smith-Wade
Circle this one: Chau Smith-Wade at No. 182 is a fall that decides a draft. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick184 Rnd6 Gabe Hall
They went early on Gabe Hall in slot 184, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick224 Rnd7 Matthew Jones
Matthew Jones in No. 224 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
