Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The Patriots won the night they stopped Wingo from sliding. Grade: B-.

The phones were a trap the Patriots kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

However the rest shakes out, Wingo at that price is a win they earned. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up.

Every board in the league had Clark lower, and that gap is the story.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Taliese Fuaga
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
Pick34 Rnd2 Kool-Aid McKinstry
Value with a capital V on Kool-Aid McKinstry in the Round 2 slot, a genuine coup. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick49 Rnd2 Kris Jenkins
A straight-up fair deal on Kris Jenkins at No. 49, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick68 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at the 68th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick87 Rnd3 Mekhi Wingo
They robbed the room for Mekhi Wingo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick115 Rnd4 Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III in slot 115 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick124 Rnd4 Javon Foster
Javon Foster at the 124th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick139 Rnd5 Kamal Hadden
Kamal Hadden at Round 5, Pick 3 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick174 Rnd5 Joe Milton III
Nice patience on Joe Milton III, who had no business lasting to slot 174. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick182 Rnd6 De'Corian Clark
The board had cheaper options than De'Corian Clark at No. 182, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick224 Rnd7 Jase McClellan
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 224, where Jase McClellan graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
