The Patriots let Smith-Wade fall into their laps, and walked away with a A-.

Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Patriots came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close.

Smith-Wade falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Jared Verse and all.
