Powerful DRAFTING FOR THETexans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Texans did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Desmond Watson at No. 166, a reach of 70 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Getting Warren where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In pick No. 25 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick58
Rnd2
Donovan Jackson
They paid up for Donovan Jackson at pick 58 when waiting would have done the job. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick79
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
A clean, defensible pick in the 79th overall pick with a little surplus value in Tate Ratledge. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick89
Rnd3
Savion Williams
Savion Williams in No. 89 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick166
Rnd5
Desmond Watson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Desmond Watson well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick236
Rnd7
Phil Mafah
Phil Mafah in the 236th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick241
Rnd7
Jalen Travis
A big swing on Jalen Travis at Round 7, Pick 25, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
