Powerful DRAFTING FOR THETexans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Texans: B-. You can draft well and still miss the point. The Texans did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to wide receiver, which was the need that mattered most. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The Rutledge reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The Slaughter pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Kayden McDonald
In No. 28 they get a disruptive interior force. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick38
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
They paid sticker price for Olaivavega Ioane in slot 38, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick59
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 27: Jake Slaughter for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
Pick69
Rnd3
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at pick 69 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick106
Rnd4
Keylan Rutledge
The board had cheaper options than Keylan Rutledge at the Round 4 slot, and it noticed. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick128
Rnd4
Michael Trigg
Michael Trigg at the 128th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick165
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
No drama and no debate, Xavier Nwankpa went about where he belonged in the 165th pick. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick243
Rnd7
Ricardo Hallman
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ricardo Hallman in pick No. 243. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick244
Rnd7
Trey Holly
Trey Holly at Round 7, Pick 28 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
