Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Texans: B-.

Nobody had De'Corian Clark this high, and it is not close. The Texans reached 46 spots to get him at Round 5, Pick 25.

The Green pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with offensive lineman and quarterback still on the board. That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Turner. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Good work on the whole, with offensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
In slot 23 they get juice off the edge, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick59 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
They paid sticker price for Payton Wilson in Round 2, Pick 27, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick85 Rnd3 Leonard Taylor III
A wild overpay on Leonard Taylor III in pick 85, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick124 Rnd4 Sione Vaki
A reach on Sione Vaki in the 124th pick; the board had better options right there. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick128 Rnd4 Renardo Green
A curious use of pick No. 128. Offensive lineman and quarterback needed the pick; a safety in Renardo Green did not.
Pick161 Rnd5 De'Corian Clark
De'Corian Clark at No. 161 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick236 Rnd7 Blake Watson
Fair-plus on Blake Watson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick245 Rnd7 Tanner McLachlan
Tanner McLachlan at the 245th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
