Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Texans, and a B- to prove it.

The Texans treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending slot 245 on Blake Watson a full 33 spots early.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Landing Legette that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Job largely done: running back settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Byron Murphy II
In pick No. 23 they get a disruptive interior force. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick59 Rnd2 Junior Colson
Nice patience on Junior Colson, who had no business lasting to the 59th pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick86 Rnd3 Xavier Legette
They read the board right and Xavier Legette was the payoff at the 86th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick124 Rnd4 Renardo Green
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Renardo Green at slot 124 is the proof. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick128 Rnd4 Marist Liufau
This one needs a full-page explanation: Marist Liufau in Round 4, Pick 28, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick236 Rnd7 Tyler Owens
Tyler Owens slid further than he should have, and the Round 7 slot is lovely value for the safety. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick245 Rnd7 Blake Watson
A wild overpay on Blake Watson in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick250 Rnd7 Brevyn Spann-Ford
The board had Brevyn Spann-Ford higher than pick No. 250, and the tight end fell to them anyway. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
