Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Texans: B-.

The Texans torched the value chart for Tanner McLachlan, taking him 34 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. That Green pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Terrion Arnold
In No. 23 they get a ballhawk on the outside. More want than need.
Pick59 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edgerrin Cooper. It fills a real need, too.
Pick85 Rnd3 Leonard Taylor III
A wild overpay on Leonard Taylor III in pick 85, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick124 Rnd4 Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara in pick No. 124 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick128 Rnd4 Jaheim Bell
A premium they did not need to pay, Jaheim Bell a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick161 Rnd5 Renardo Green
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Renardo Green at the Round 5 slot. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick236 Rnd7 Joshua Cephus
Joshua Cephus at the 236th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick245 Rnd7 Tanner McLachlan
Tanner McLachlan in pick 245 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
