Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans won the night they stopped Winston Jr. from sliding. Grade: B-.

When a board-topper like Kevin Winston Jr. slides to the Round 5 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Texans did not. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. The Booker pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Tyler Booker
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a cornerstone up front, reach and all.
Pick57 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
Taking Kenneth Grant in the Round 2 slot is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick89 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba at No. 89 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick126 Rnd4 Barrett Carter
The board fumbled Barrett Carter all the way to the 126th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick164 Rnd5 Kevin Winston Jr.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Kevin Winston Jr. in pick No. 164, plain and simple. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick241 Rnd7 Clay Webb
Clay Webb at slot 241 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It fills a real need, too.
