Powerful DRAFTING FOR THETexans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Texans let Carter fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-. The board owed the Texans one, and it paid up: Barrett Carter, the No. 86 name on the board, sitting there at the 164th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They are betting Booker proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Tyler Booker
In the 25th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
Pick57
Rnd2
Tyleik Williams
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyleik Williams. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick89
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
Value with a capital V on Andrew Mukuba in slot 89, a genuine coup. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick126
Rnd4
TreVeyon Henderson
Circle this one: TreVeyon Henderson at No. 126 is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick164
Rnd5
Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter at Round 5, Pick 26 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
Pick241
Rnd7
Shilo Sanders
Shilo Sanders at the Round 7 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
