Powerful DRAFTING FOR THETexans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Texans won the night they stopped McCaffrey from sliding. Grade: B-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Luke McCaffrey, the No. 165 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 236th pick. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Hopper has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Quinyon Mitchell
In the 23rd overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value.
Pick59
Rnd2
Adonai Mitchell
Taking Adonai Mitchell in the 59th pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick86
Rnd3
Mekhi Wingo
A wild overpay on Mekhi Wingo in Round 3, Pick 23, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick124
Rnd4
Sione Vaki
Sione Vaki in pick 124 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick128
Rnd4
Ty'Ron Hopper
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ty'Ron Hopper this early at slot 128. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick236
Rnd7
Luke McCaffrey
The board fumbled Luke McCaffrey all the way to pick No. 236, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick245
Rnd7
Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick250
Rnd7
Tyler Owens
Somehow Tyler Owens was still sitting there in No. 250, and they pounced on premier safety value. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
