Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Texans, and a B- to prove it.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Texans reached some 49 spots for Ty'Ron Hopper, and value like that does not grow back. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

Owens falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In pick 23 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick59 Rnd2 Kris Jenkins
They read the board right and Kris Jenkins was the payoff at pick No. 59. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick86 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at No. 86 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick124 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at the 124th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick128 Rnd4 Ty'Ron Hopper
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ty'Ron Hopper. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick236 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. at the Round 7 slot is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick245 Rnd7 Tyler Owens
They let Tyler Owens come to them and pounced at pick 245. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick250 Rnd7 De'Corian Clark
They talked themselves into De'Corian Clark at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
