Powerful DRAFTING FOR THETexans

Draft Grade — Texans

The Texans did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Texans would have aced it. Leonard Taylor III at Round 3, Pick 22 is 27 spots clear of where he belonged. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through offensive lineman. They banked enough surplus on Green to cover a lot of smaller sins. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In the 23rd pick they get a bendy edge with upside, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick59
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell at pick 59 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick85
Rnd3
Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III at No. 85 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick124
Rnd4
Sione Vaki
A reach on Sione Vaki in the 124th overall pick; the board had better options right there. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick128
Rnd4
Jaheim Bell
They paid a round early for Jaheim Bell in slot 128, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick161
Rnd5
Renardo Green
Renardo Green at pick No. 161 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick236
Rnd7
Blake Watson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Blake Watson in pick 236. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick245
Rnd7
Joshua Cephus
Joshua Cephus at the 245th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
