Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Texans never addressed offensive lineman, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

They are betting Vaki proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Byron Murphy II
A straight-up fair deal on Byron Murphy II at the Round 1 slot, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick59 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell at slot 59 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick85 Rnd3 Marist Liufau
They took Marist Liufau at par in the 85th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick124 Rnd4 Sione Vaki
Sione Vaki at No. 124 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick128 Rnd4 Jaheim Bell
They went early on Jaheim Bell in pick No. 128, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick161 Rnd5 Zion Tupuola-Fetui
A conviction pick on Zion Tupuola-Fetui at pick 161 that the board grades a round light. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick236 Rnd7 Blake Watson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Blake Watson in the 236th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick245 Rnd7 Joshua Cephus
No drama and no debate, Joshua Cephus went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 25. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
