Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Texans.

The Texans spent real capital to be 53 picks early on Ty'Ron Hopper, and the board is going to hold them to it. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped offensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Landing Gore Jr. that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In No. 23 they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick59 Rnd2 Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III at pick No. 59 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick86 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at pick 86 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick124 Rnd4 Ty'Ron Hopper
A real head-scratcher, Ty'Ron Hopper in the 124th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick128 Rnd4 Mohamed Kamara
By-the-book stuff, Mohamed Kamara at the 128th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick236 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. at Round 7, Pick 16 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick245 Rnd7 Eyabi Okie-Anoma
Eyabi Okie-Anoma in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick250 Rnd7 Joshua Cephus
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Joshua Cephus. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
