Powerful DRAFTING FOR THETexans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B
ValueA
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Larceny in the Round 7 slot lands the Texans a B, Stowers and all. The board owed the Texans one, and it paid up: Eli Stowers, the No. 170 name on the board, sitting there at No. 241 like a gift left on the doorstep. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The Capehart pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
You do not let a running back like Ashton Jeanty reach slot 25 and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick57
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
Circle this one: Tyler Booker at No. 57 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick89
Rnd3
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker in Round 3, Pick 25 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
Pick126
Rnd4
DeMonte Capehart
This one needs a full-page explanation: DeMonte Capehart in pick No. 126, miles early. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick164
Rnd5
Kevin Winston Jr.
The board fumbled Kevin Winston Jr. all the way to the 164th overall pick, and they scooped it up. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick241
Rnd7
Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers in the 241st pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
