Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Texans: B-.

When the story of this class is written, it opens with Tanner McLachlan at pick No. 245, a reach of 34 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.

The Clark pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
In pick No. 23 they get a premier pass rusher, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick59 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
No edge and no loss on T'Vondre Sweat in the 59th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick85 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson in pick 85 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick124 Rnd4 Sione Vaki
Sione Vaki in Round 4, Pick 24 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick128 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
They took Cedric Gray at par in slot 128, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick161 Rnd5 Zion Tupuola-Fetui
They went early on Zion Tupuola-Fetui in the 161st pick, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick236 Rnd7 De'Corian Clark
De'Corian Clark at pick 236 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick245 Rnd7 Tanner McLachlan
Tanner McLachlan at Round 7, Pick 25 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
