Powerful DRAFTING FOR THETexans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Texans kept it disciplined and banked a B. The Thor Griffith pick is the one that will follow the Texans into the fall. They took him 67 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
Winston Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In the 25th pick they get an anchor for the defensive front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick58
Rnd2
Donovan Jackson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Donovan Jackson in pick 58, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
Pick89
Rnd3
Isaiah Bond
Circle this one: Isaiah Bond at Round 3, Pick 25 is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick127
Rnd4
Savion Williams
They barely believed it either: Savion Williams still on the board at the Round 4 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick167
Rnd5
Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. at slot 167 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick243
Rnd7
Thor Griffith
A big swing on Thor Griffith at the 243rd overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
