Powerful DRAFTING FOR THETexans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Texans: B. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Jordan Jefferson at Round 4, Pick 27, a reach of 56 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Wilson. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Wiggins pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, offensive lineman and other spots still on the board. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick42
Rnd2
Quinyon Mitchell
Circle this one: Quinyon Mitchell at Round 2, Pick 10 is a fall that decides a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick59
Rnd2
Nate Wiggins
A curious use of pick No. 59. Edge rusher, offensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Nate Wiggins did not.
Pick86
Rnd3
Roman Wilson
Somehow Roman Wilson was still sitting there in the 86th pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick123
Rnd4
Isaac Guerendo
Isaac Guerendo in slot 123 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick127
Rnd4
Jordan Jefferson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jordan Jefferson in No. 127, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick188
Rnd6
Ty'Ron Hopper
A clean, defensible pick in the 188th overall pick with a little surplus value in Ty'Ron Hopper. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick247
Rnd7
Sam Hartman
They went early on Sam Hartman in pick 247, and the value did not follow. A need, and now a little less of one.
