Powerful DRAFTING FOR THETexans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B

FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Texans: B. The Texans torched the value chart for J.J. Weaver, taking him 70 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. No fireworks, but a solid B.
On value alone, Sainristil makes the weekend a net positive. The Sainristil pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at running back, offensive lineman and other spots.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick42
Rnd2
Cooper DeJean
Cooper DeJean slid further than he should have, and No. 42 is lovely value for the cornerback. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick59
Rnd2
Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. at the 59th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick86
Rnd3
Leonard Taylor III
A real head-scratcher, Leonard Taylor III in slot 86 is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick123
Rnd4
Mike Sainristil
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Mike Sainristil while clear needs at running back, offensive lineman and other spots sat open.
Pick127
Rnd4
Javon Baker
The board fumbled Javon Baker all the way to the 127th pick, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick188
Rnd6
Myles Cole
They liked Myles Cole enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 188. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick247
Rnd7
J.J. Weaver
They reached into another round for J.J. Weaver, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
