Powerful DRAFTING FOR THETexans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B
ValueA
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Texans cashed the board's mistake on Winston Jr.: B. You build a draft on nights like this. Kevin Winston Jr. had no business being available in No. 126, and the Texans did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. Every board in the league had Dellinger lower, and that gap is the story.
Job largely done: running back settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In slot 25 they get a workhorse for the backfield at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick57
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
Taking Tate Ratledge in No. 57 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick89
Rnd3
Denzel Burke
A cornerback of that caliber at pick No. 89 is the definition of value, full stop. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick126
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
You do not let a safety like Kevin Winston Jr. reach the Round 4 slot and blink. They did not. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick164
Rnd5
Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers in pick 164 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick241
Rnd7
Garrett Dellinger
Garrett Dellinger at the 241st pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
