Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Texans, and a B- to prove it.

Nobody had De'Corian Clark this high, and it is not close. The Texans reached 46 spots to get him at pick No. 161.

The offensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Jared Verse
In slot 23 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick59 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
Nothing to complain about; Chris Braswell went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick85 Rnd3 Leonard Taylor III
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Leonard Taylor III well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick124 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
A premium they did not need to pay, Cedric Gray a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick128 Rnd4 Sione Vaki
They went early on Sione Vaki in pick 128, and the value did not follow. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick161 Rnd5 De'Corian Clark
De'Corian Clark at the 161st overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick236 Rnd7 Blake Watson
A clean, defensible pick in slot 236 with a little surplus value in Blake Watson. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick245 Rnd7 Tanner McLachlan
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tanner McLachlan in the 245th overall pick, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
