Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Texans.

The Texans torched the value chart for Tanner McLachlan, taking him 34 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.

Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Green at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Jared Verse
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick59 Rnd2 Ja'Tavion Sanders
Good price on Ja'Tavion Sanders in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick85 Rnd3 Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III at the 85th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick124 Rnd4 Sione Vaki
They went early on Sione Vaki in the 124th pick, and the value did not follow. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick128 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cedric Gray. It fills a real need, too.
Pick161 Rnd5 Renardo Green
A slide stopped in pick No. 161, with Renardo Green worth more than the price. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick236 Rnd7 Joshua Cephus
They paid up for Joshua Cephus at the 236th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick245 Rnd7 Tanner McLachlan
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tanner McLachlan in pick 245, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
