Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B.

They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Tanner McLachlan, 34 picks early at pick No. 245. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

The Wilson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Good work on the whole, with offensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Byron Murphy II
In the 23rd overall pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick59 Rnd2 Jonah Elliss
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jonah Elliss at the Round 2 slot is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick85 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
The board fumbled Payton Wilson all the way to Round 3, Pick 22, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick124 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
They barely believed it either: Khyree Jackson still on the board at pick 124. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick128 Rnd4 Sione Vaki
Sione Vaki at pick No. 128 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick161 Rnd5 Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at slot 161. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick236 Rnd7 Blake Watson
Blake Watson in No. 236 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick245 Rnd7 Tanner McLachlan
Tanner McLachlan at Round 7, Pick 25 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
