Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Texans: B-.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but De'Corian Clark at Round 5, Pick 28 is 36 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. On value alone, Wilson makes the weekend a net positive.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Kool-Aid McKinstry
In slot 23 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick59 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edgerrin Cooper. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick85 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
Value with a capital V on Payton Wilson in the 85th overall pick, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick123 Rnd4 Malik Mustapha
They paid up for Malik Mustapha at pick 123 when waiting would have done the job. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick127 Rnd4 Jaheim Bell
The board had cheaper options than Jaheim Bell at the 127th pick, and it noticed. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick164 Rnd5 De'Corian Clark
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for De'Corian Clark. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick239 Rnd7 Blake Watson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Blake Watson at the 239th overall pick is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick248 Rnd7 Tanner McLachlan
Tanner McLachlan at the 248th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
