Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-

Coleman should have been long gone. The Texans pounced, and earned a B-.

When a board-topper like Keon Coleman slides to the 86th overall pick, you do not overthink it, and the Texans did not. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

They will need Hopper to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a lockdown presence outside. More want than need.
Pick59 Rnd2 Amarius Mims
Amarius Mims in the 59th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
Pick86 Rnd3 Keon Coleman
You do not let a wide receiver like Keon Coleman reach No. 86 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick123 Rnd4 Tyler Davis
Good price on Tyler Davis in pick 123, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick127 Rnd4 Ty'Ron Hopper
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ty'Ron Hopper this early at pick No. 127. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick224 Rnd7 Myles Cole
Myles Cole in slot 224 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick238 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. at the 238th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick247 Rnd7 Tyler Owens
Tyler Owens at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
