Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

The Texans treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending pick 245 on Tanner McLachlan a full 34 spots early. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. They banked enough surplus on Robinson to cover a lot of smaller sins. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Terrion Arnold
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value.
Pick59 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
They will replay Chop Robinson at the 59th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick85 Rnd3 Leonard Taylor III
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Leonard Taylor III. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick124 Rnd4 Sione Vaki
Sione Vaki in pick 124 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick128 Rnd4 Jaheim Bell
The board had cheaper options than Jaheim Bell at pick No. 128, and it noticed. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick161 Rnd5 Renardo Green
Renardo Green is a better player than No. 161 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick236 Rnd7 Joshua Cephus
Joshua Cephus at No. 236 is a conviction pick that outran the value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick245 Rnd7 Tanner McLachlan
Tanner McLachlan at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
