Larceny in pick No. 256 lands the Chiefs a B, Marshall Jr. and all. You build a draft on nights like this. Jason Marshall Jr. had no business being available in pick 256, and the Chiefs did the only sane thing and turned in the card. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
Every board in the league had Carter lower, and that gap is the story. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick Analysis
Pick40
Rnd2
Mykel Williams
They will replay Mykel Williams at pick No. 40 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Pick41
Rnd2
Derrick Harmon
The board had Derrick Harmon higher than the 41st overall pick, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick63
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
They barely believed it either: Omarion Hampton still on the board at the Round 2 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick66
Rnd3
Tre Harris
Tre Harris in slot 66 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick71
Rnd3
Barrett Carter
They jumped the gun on Barrett Carter, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick72
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
A clean, defensible pick in Round 3, Pick 8 with a little surplus value in Andrew Mukuba. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick256
Rnd7
Jason Marshall Jr.
Jason Marshall Jr. in pick 256 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
