FutureB
Best value of the weekend goes to the Bears for Majors: B+. When a board-topper like Jake Majors slides to pick 124, you do not overthink it, and the Bears did not. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
Every board in the league had Frazier lower, and that gap is the story. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Will Johnson
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39
Rnd2
Grey Zabel
Grey Zabel at the 39th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
Pick54
Rnd2
Princely Umanmielen
Princely Umanmielen at pick No. 54 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick73
Rnd3
Jay Higgins
Nice patience on Jay Higgins, who had no business lasting to pick 73. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick78
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
They talked themselves into Alfred Collins at the Round 3 slot, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick88
Rnd3
Jared Ivey
Jared Ivey at the 88th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick124
Rnd4
Jake Majors
Taking Jake Majors in No. 124 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick148
Rnd5
Theo Wease Jr.
Theo Wease Jr. at slot 148 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick150
Rnd5
Miles Frazier
Value said wait; Miles Frazier in pick No. 150 says they were not listening. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick203
Rnd6
Kevin Winston Jr.
They paid sticker price for Kevin Winston Jr. in slot 203, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick226
Rnd7
Elijhah Badger
They reached a country mile for Elijhah Badger at the 226th pick, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick244
Rnd7
Garrett Dellinger
Garrett Dellinger in No. 244 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
