You can draft well and still miss the point. The Saints did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to quarterback, which was the need that mattered most.

That Simpson pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Will Fries gives the group a proven body among the projects.

They are betting Thomas proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
