The Rams cashed the board's mistake on Cook: D. The Rams lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The Cook value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. If Mauigoa pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick47
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Walter Nolen at Round 2, Pick 15 is the proof. It fills a real need, too.
Pick56
Rnd2
Drew Allar
Drew Allar at pick No. 56 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
Pick82
Rnd3
Jordan Hancock
They will replay Jordan Hancock at slot 82 for years; that is how good the value is. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick104
Rnd4
Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles in pick 104 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick111
Rnd4
Devin Neal
Devin Neal in the 111th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick114
Rnd4
Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren in the 114th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick142
Rnd5
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 14 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick161
Rnd6
Francisco Mauigoa
A reach for Francisco Mauigoa in the Round 6 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick181
Rnd6
Jack Kiser
No edge and no loss on Jack Kiser in slot 181; it is a wash and a sensible one. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick196
Rnd7
Xavier Truss
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Xavier Truss in pick 196. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick216
Rnd7
Brady Cook
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Brady Cook in pick No. 216, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
