Emeritus DRAFTING FOR THEBengals

Draft Grade — Bengals

The Bengals did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. The Bengals bet big and early on Ben Sinnott, 32 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
Wiggins falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Tyler Guyton
In the 18th overall pick they get a blindside protector, though they paid up to get him.
Pick49
Rnd2
Nate Wiggins
They barely believed it either: Nate Wiggins still on the board at the Round 2 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick80
Rnd3
Maason Smith
A wild overpay on Maason Smith in pick No. 80, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick97
Rnd3
Ben Sinnott
They reached a country mile for Ben Sinnott at slot 97, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick115
Rnd4
Trey Benson
You do not let a running back like Trey Benson reach Round 4, Pick 15 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick149
Rnd5
Tommy Eichenberg
Fair-plus on Tommy Eichenberg, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick194
Rnd6
Jaylen Harrell
They went early on Jaylen Harrell in the 194th overall pick, and the value did not follow. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick214
Rnd6
Caedan Wallace
Caedan Wallace in slot 214 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick224
Rnd7
Andrew Raym
A premium they did not need to pay, Andrew Raym a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick237
Rnd7
Myles Murphy
Myles Murphy slid further than he should have, and the Round 7 slot is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick238
Rnd7
Bub Means
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bub Means. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
