Draft Grade — Jets
Overall
D-
ValueB
NeedB-
TradesF
FutureB
The Jets robbed the room for Flournoy. Final grade: D-. The Jets lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.
Flournoy at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The cost of the Milton III reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In No. 28 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value.
Pick35
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
They paid sticker price for Ja'Tavion Sanders in slot 35, and that is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick36
Rnd2
Jordan Morgan
Jordan Morgan in the 36th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick72
Rnd3
Xavier Legette
No drama and no debate, Xavier Legette went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick114
Rnd4
Patrick Paul
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 114 is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick135
Rnd4
Beau Brade
By-the-book stuff, Beau Brade at the 135th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick139
Rnd5
Roger Rosengarten
They did well to land Roger Rosengarten in slot 139, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick144
Rnd5
Jaylin Simpson
The board had Jaylin Simpson higher than the 144th overall pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick152
Rnd5
Trevor Keegan
A tidy bit of business in No. 152, where Trevor Keegan graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Pick154
Rnd5
Ainias Smith
Value with a capital V on Ainias Smith in Round 5, Pick 18, a genuine coup. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick155
Rnd5
Jalyx Hunt
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jalyx Hunt in the Round 5 slot. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick185
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at pick 185 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick189
Rnd6
Ty'Ron Hopper
A slide stopped in the 189th pick, with Ty'Ron Hopper worth more than the price. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick209
Rnd6
Jase McClellan
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jase McClellan at pick No. 209. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick213
Rnd6
Jaylan Ford
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jaylan Ford in the Round 6 slot. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick217
Rnd6
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in pick No. 217 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick222
Rnd7
Evan Williams
Evan Williams is a better player than the 222nd overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick236
Rnd7
Caedan Wallace
They barely believed it either: Caedan Wallace still on the board at No. 236. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick254
Rnd7
Ryan Flournoy
You do not let a wide receiver like Ryan Flournoy reach pick 254 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick256
Rnd7
Keaton Bills
A quiet steal in the 256th pick: Keaton Bills for less than the market said. It fills a real need, too.
Pick257
Rnd7
Edefuan Ulofoshio
Circle this one: Edefuan Ulofoshio at slot 257 is a fall that decides a draft. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
