Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall B+
ValueC- NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Bengals worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+.

The tape said wait; the Bengals did not. Evan Pryor went at the Round 7 slot, a good 216 picks before the board was ready. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The Sabb pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end and quarterback still on the board. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Thieneman.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick44 Rnd2 Dontay Corleone
Dontay Corleone in Round 2, Pick 12 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick49 Rnd2 Brian Parker II
Brian Parker II in No. 49 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick55 Rnd2 Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles in slot 55 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick74 Rnd3 Dillon Thieneman
A quiet steal in pick No. 74: Dillon Thieneman for less than the market said. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick85 Rnd3 Keon Sabb
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Keon Sabb adds a safety and leaves tight end and quarterback untouched.
Pick97 Rnd3 Deion Burks
They paid up for Deion Burks at the 97th pick when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick110 Rnd4 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
A real head-scratcher, Jermaine Mathews Jr. in the 110th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick117 Rnd4 DJ McKinney
No edge and no loss on DJ McKinney in pick No. 117; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick158 Rnd5 Trey Moore
Trey Moore at slot 158 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick191 Rnd6 Isaiah Jatta
Isaiah Jatta at Round 6, Pick 10 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick204 Rnd6 Brandon Inniss
They reached a country mile for Brandon Inniss at the Round 6 slot, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick225 Rnd7 Evan Pryor
This one needs a full-page explanation: Evan Pryor in pick 225, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
