Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
D-
ValueB-

TradesF
FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Cowboys to a D-. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 32 spots for Jehiem Oatis, and value like that does not grow back. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and cornerback is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa
In No. 12 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick20
Rnd1
John Henry Daley
In slot 20 they get a double-digit-sack hope. Need was not the driver here.
Pick150
Rnd5
Charles Jagusah
They reached into another round for Charles Jagusah, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick177
Rnd5
Princewill Umanmielen
Princewill Umanmielen at the 177th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick215
Rnd6
Alex Birchmeier
Alex Birchmeier in Round 6, Pick 36 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick221
Rnd7
Jehiem Oatis
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jehiem Oatis in pick 221, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
Pick225
Rnd7
Shamar Porter
Shamar Porter at the 225th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
