Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Browns a B-. Everything else got attention, and edge rusher got none. That is a strange way for the Browns to leave a draft.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Simpson. If Freeling pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Monroe Freeling
In No. 6 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
Pick24
Rnd1
Denzel Boston
A straight-up fair deal on Denzel Boston at pick No. 24, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick39
Rnd2
Ty Simpson
A slide stopped in slot 39, with Ty Simpson worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
