Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Saints.

You can draft well and still miss the point. The Saints did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to cornerback, which was the need that mattered most. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

They are betting Brown proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They banked enough surplus on Raridon to cover a lot of smaller sins. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Peter Woods
In Round 1, Pick 8 they get a problem off the edge, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick42 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 42 with a little surplus value in Emmanuel Pregnon. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick73 Rnd3 Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter at the 73rd pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It fills a real need, too.
Pick132 Rnd4 Eli Raridon
Eli Raridon slipping to the Round 4 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick136 Rnd4 Skyler Gill-Howard
Skyler Gill-Howard at slot 136 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick148 Rnd5 Chase Roberts
A straight-up fair deal on Chase Roberts at No. 148, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick170 Rnd5 Le'Veon Moss
By-the-book stuff, Le'Veon Moss at the 170th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick188 Rnd6 Barion Brown
This one needs a full-page explanation: Barion Brown in pick 188, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
