Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall

FutureB+
The Chargers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Chargers took De'Zhaun Stribling a full 41 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. However the rest shakes out, Thieneman at that price is a win they earned.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and cornerback is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
In slot 32 they get protection for the quarterback, though they paid up to get him.
Pick35
Rnd2
Elijah Sarratt
They jumped the gun on Elijah Sarratt, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick50
Rnd2
Darrell Jackson Jr.
A reach on Darrell Jackson Jr. in No. 50; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick70
Rnd3
Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman at pick 70 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick96
Rnd3
Whit Weeks
Whit Weeks at the 96th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick107
Rnd4
Akheem Mesidor
A wild overpay on Akheem Mesidor in the Round 4 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick122
Rnd4
Chase Bisontis
No edge and no loss on Chase Bisontis in slot 122; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick142
Rnd5
Drew Allar
Drew Allar in the 142nd overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
Pick143
Rnd5
Logan Jones
No drama and no debate, Logan Jones went about where he belonged in pick 143. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick204
Rnd6
De'Zhaun Stribling
De'Zhaun Stribling at pick No. 204 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
