FutureB
The Vikings did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Vikings started one anyway for Kaleb Elarms-Orr, 49 picks ahead of schedule. The bottom line is a respectable B.
On value alone, Hill Jr. makes the weekend a net positive. The Elarms-Orr pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, tight end and other spots still on the board.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In the 24th pick they get a bell-cow for the offense at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick49
Rnd2
D'Angelo Ponds
A straight-up fair deal on D'Angelo Ponds at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick82
Rnd3
Anthony Hill Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Anthony Hill Jr. at Round 3, Pick 18 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick97
Rnd3
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at slot 97 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick125
Rnd4
Bud Clark
No edge and no loss on Bud Clark in pick 125; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick131
Rnd4
Kaleb Elarms-Orr
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, tight end and other spots to take Kaleb Elarms-Orr, a linebacker that was not the priority.
Pick161
Rnd5
Louis Moore
Louis Moore at the Round 5 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick194
Rnd6
Taylen Green
They read the board right and Taylen Green was the payoff at the 194th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick234
Rnd7
Eric McAlister
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Eric McAlister in slot 234, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick240
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III in No. 240 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
