Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Steelers for Scott: B-.

Somebody in No. 99 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Steelers sat still while Keionte Scott, the No. 61 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

The Allar reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Olaivavega Ioane
In No. 21 they get a building block for the line. More want than need.
Pick53 Rnd2 CJ Allen
Taking CJ Allen in slot 53 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick76 Rnd3 Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch at the 76th overall pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick85 Rnd3 Jacob Rodriguez
The board had Jacob Rodriguez higher than the Round 3 slot, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick99 Rnd3 Keionte Scott
You do not let a cornerback like Keionte Scott reach Round 3, Pick 35 and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick121 Rnd4 Drew Allar
A big swing on Drew Allar at pick No. 121, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick135 Rnd4 Demond Claiborne
Value said wait; Demond Claiborne in pick 135 says they were not listening. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick161 Rnd5 Jeff Caldwell
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jeff Caldwell. The roster fit checks out.
Pick216 Rnd6 Fa'alili Fa'amoe
They reached into another round for Fa'alili Fa'amoe, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick224 Rnd7 Jaren Kanak
Jaren Kanak at pick No. 224 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick230 Rnd7 Daevin Hobbs
They left a pile of value on the table to take Daevin Hobbs this early at the 230th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick237 Rnd7 Robert Spears-Jennings
They paid a round early for Robert Spears-Jennings in No. 237, more than the board wanted. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
