Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesB FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Chargers a B.

There is reaching, and then there is Micah Morris at pick 199. The Chargers jumped the board by 132 and dared it to prove them wrong. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

The Slaughter pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.

Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In No. 32 they get a three-down second-level presence, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Pick59 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Circle this one: Jake Slaughter at slot 59 is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick64 Rnd2 Zion Young
Zion Young at pick 64 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick91 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
They paid sticker price for Omar Cooper Jr. in the 91st pick, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick130 Rnd4 Bray Hubbard
Bray Hubbard in the 130th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick172 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun at Round 5, Pick 32 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick199 Rnd6 Micah Morris
Micah Morris at pick No. 199 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
