Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall D-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Cardinals lost the trade table, and the D- tells the story.

The Cardinals looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Drew Allar at No. 105 regardless, 53 picks early. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Thieneman value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Gennings Dunker
In the 12th pick they get a cornerstone up front, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick35 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at No. 35 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick39 Rnd2 Olaivavega Ioane
A reach for Olaivavega Ioane in Round 2, Pick 7; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick44 Rnd2 Sonny Styles
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Sonny Styles. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick70 Rnd3 Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman slid further than he should have, and pick No. 70 is lovely value for the safety. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick105 Rnd4 Drew Allar
They reached into another round for Drew Allar, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick116 Rnd4 Domani Jackson
A straight-up fair deal on Domani Jackson at No. 116, value and slot in agreement. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick148 Rnd5 Eric Rivers
They took Eric Rivers at par in slot 148, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick156 Rnd5 Max Iheanachor
They went early on Max Iheanachor in pick No. 156, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick186 Rnd6 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
No drama and no debate, Jermaine Mathews Jr. went about where he belonged in pick 186. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick218 Rnd7 Makhi Hughes
They did well to land Makhi Hughes in the 218th pick, just ahead of his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick221 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
A premium they did not need to pay, Trey Zuhn III a notch or two before his time. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
